Should I use after-market engine oil additives/cleaners?
Whilst it is a good idea to use specialist engine oil flush or cleaners before an oil change this would most apply to engines that have a high build up of sludge and so require drastic measures.
On vehicles that have been looked after and maintained well with regular servicing, using engine oil additive is not required nor recommended. Good engine oils already contain advanced detergents that clean and lubricate an engine to deliver reliability and performance.
In fact engine oil manufacturers such as Shell, Castrol & Mobil spend millions in research and development to create the perfect balance of oil and additives. The last thing you should be doing is adding anything else to their carefully developed formula.
