If you’ve recently bought or serviced a Mercedes-Benz, you might’ve noticed something new on your engine oil bottle — a FUCHS logo sitting proudly beneath the Mercedes-Benz star.
That’s right — Mercedes-Benz Genuine Engine Oil now comes engineered by FUCHS, marking the start of a fresh chapter in the brand’s pursuit of performance and innovation. (You can see it clearly in the new packaging design!)
The Big Change: Petronas ➜ FUCHS

For years, Mercedes-Benz partnered with Petronas Lubricants International (PLI) to produce its factory-approved engine oils. These oils carried specs like SAE 5W-30 MB 229.52, and a typical part number such as A000989820713FBDK — a familiar sight to technicians and enthusiasts alike.
But as of March 28, 2024, Mercedes-Benz officially announced a new strategic partnership with FUCHS Lubricants Germany GmbH, a globally respected German lubricant manufacturer.
The new generation of oils — such as SAE 5W-30 MB 229.52 and SAE 5W-40 MB 229.5 — are now proudly labeled “Engineered by FUCHS.”
And yes, the part numbers have changed too, for example A000989681013FSEW, reflecting the switch to the new supplier.
Why the Change?
According to FUCHS’ official announcement, this collaboration is “a game-changing partnership” aimed at developing high-quality, sustainable lubrication solutions that meet Mercedes-Benz’s demanding engineering standards.
The focus is on:
- Longer-lasting protection for modern engines
- Improved efficiency and performance
- Sustainability, through advanced, environmentally conscious formulations
